The Mathews Capital Global Opportunities Fund (previously named Tomahawk International Fund L.P.) is an unlisted Cayman Islands exempted limited partnership first established in January 2005. The Global Opportunities Fund has been managed by Rodney Hinchcliffe since January 2009.
The Fund was closed to new investors in 2008. In June 2011, the Fund was re-opened to new investors with significant new subscriptions in that month. As at 30 June 30, 2011 FuM were US$36.2 million.
The Fund adopts a long/short concentrated investment approach and utilises a low to moderate level of gearing. The Fund focuses on the group’s key investment thematics which are currently energy and resources, base metals, gold and selected industrials. The Fund invests through both the equity and commodity markets, although it is not limited to this investment.
The Fund invests in mainly large cap equities in Australia, North America and Europe.
Under the full-time management of Rodney Hinchcliffe, the Global Opportunities Fund has produced annualised returns in excess of 43.5% (net of all fees, for the period I January 2009 to 1 June 2011).
The Fund’s investor base is comprised of sophisticated high net worth individuals, including family offices. Management and related entities account for approximately 35% of the current investor base.
